The Shear Wall system as can be seen in Cel's photos are those structural walls dividing the individual room which act as the structure of the entire building instead of the conventional column and beam system. You can see steel reinforcement for those walls yet to be concreted.
The pros: - 1. No columns protruding out from the walls giving you a nice clean wall to place your furnitures; 2. Better sound insulation with the next unit as the wall is more solid compared to normal brick wall. 3. Able to speed up construction works.
The con: - 1. The shear walls are permanent structural walls and cannot be hacked/removed, you can't hacked the walls to conceal any additional wirings, even hammering/drilling a hole to hang picture is difficult.
Thanks for visiting. Which unit did you buy? I think Shear Wall system is a good thing.
Thanks yk for the clarifications.
That is also why I am pushing the developer to provide more ceiling fan points as hacking after completion is totally out of the question, but I think they 'tak layan' :(
No worries cel.. I bought a unit in Block A (A-08-05). This is my first property and I have very high hopes for it... (that explains my lack of knowledge in building construction).
You are right yk, a friend of mine own an apt constructedm with shear walls and to it is very difficult to drill just to fix curtains. End up using a few drill heads.
Well, I suppose you got to start somewhere hasri... with the sales of this project, its hard to imagine that it can go wrong. But then again, we will never know. So fingers cross.
No la... It's just, I've the right tools for the right situation.... That damn concrete can't be drilled using RM49.90 drill.... Anyway, I'm in building maintenance environment.

'you can't hacked the walls to conceal any additional wirings, even hammering/drilling a hole to hang picture is difficult.'
wa...how came..no drilling...how can we add additional aircond to our home...
very difficult to renovate our house..
Well, you can still drill the wall perpendicular to the shear walls as they would most probably be infill with bricks.
